Several years before the club
was established, many of the original members rode together, and
independently, on regular occasions, under various other names and
banners, such as East Rand Scooter Trash as well as Easy Riders.
In
March 2002, East Rand Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Club was formed, by
about 20 of these riders. We are now into our tenth year, and still
going strong.
We were recently instructed by the local Harley-Davidson
representative in South Africa, to revise our club name, and to
remove the HD logo, as they considered it to give the perception,
that we were Harley-Davidson dealers, even though the word
"Club" was very evident on our website, as well as in our
constitution. In this process, the
"-Davidson" has been removed from the main title and Domain.
Many Harley-Davidson owners have come and gone during our almost ten
years of existence, but the majority of our hard core members have
remained loyal.
We consider our Harley-Davidson Club to be the best Harley "Joll" in
the country. With a full on Pub, mostly possible due to
contributions by members over the years. The Clubhouse boasts a Juke
Box, Children's Room, separate toilet facilities for men and women,
kitchen, dishwasher, deep freeze & fridges as well as large screen
TV .
In addition, a huge covered area with PVC roll up sides, naturally,
in Harley colours, permits us to keep cool outside on warm summer
evenings, and dry on rainy nights. Complete with a Gas Braai
(Barbeque for international readers) and tables for those who make
use of the Braai area every Thursday night (Pub night).
On special occasions, a band blasts out our favourite music, other
than that, the Juke Box keeps our feet tapping at most gatherings.
Rides are arranged every Sunday, sometimes on a Saturday as well.
Several long rides, requiring spending a few nights away, are annual
events.
